Superintendent Update 1018/Actualización del Superintendente 1018

Posted Date: 10/18/26 (08:47 PM)

Dear Students, Families and Staff,

Last week was a short week because of the national holiday, but it did not feel that way, with a wild array of academic, club and athletic activities on and off both campuses. And this coming week promises to be another busy one.

California and GTA Academic Achievement Scores Released

On Thursday, the California Department of Education publicized its annual dashboard, which is available here for all public schools across the state: https://www.caschooldashboard.org/ You can look up our four schools and find out more detail about our performance on the Dashboard website. And here is a screenshot of all the key indicators for each of our schools.

As you can see, GTA schools are rated on a number of different criteria. And while there are many bright spots, including higher science scores, excellent graduation rates and lower suspension rates, the overall picture is still the same as the past few years: our scores continue to show incremental and spotty post-pandemic recovery, but overall proficiency in English Language Arts and Math remains below 2018–19 pre-Covid levels. The same phenomenon exists across the state. Our students, teachers and other staff are working as hard as we ever have to increase the knowledge and lifelong learning skills so vital to succeed in the world. And yet the outcomes are still lower than they used to be before 2020, for a variety of reasons. We will discuss these results at an upcoming board meeting in November.

GTA Board Meeting Tuesday

On Tuesday the GTA Board will meet for a recently added board meeting. This meeting was not on the original schedule, but was called by our board in order to consider several significant time-sensitive issues, including a student expulsion and several items related to the financing of buildings on the MIT campus. Because of the closed session nature of the expulsion, the regular meeting will not begin until around 6:30pm. We will be meeting on the MIT campus, in the H1.5 building, and online at  https://mitacademy.zoom.us/j/84703433018   Here is the agenda: https://app2.boardontrack.com/public/Ru5qUH/agenda/120880

Estimados estudiantes, familias y personal,
