What is ASB?

ASB stands for Associated Student Body. It refers to a group of students that are elected or selected to represent the entire student body at MITA MS. This is the student government of MITA MS.

What does ASB do?

ASB is responsible for the three main objectives:

  1. Provide student activities that raise school spirit and assist in creating a positive school culture.
  2. Manage the finances of all student groups (e.g. clubs) according to accounting policies.
  3. Represent MITA MS to staff and the community.

These three objectives support the school's core values: Safety, Ownership, Achievement, and Respect.

What does it take to be in ASB?

ASB members must be leaders. They must conduct themselves with integrity at all times. Integrity is doing the right thing even when no one is watching. The other qualities of a good leader include honesty, trustworthiness, responsibility, reliability, humility, and respect for adults and fellow students. ASB is a commitment to working hard and helping to make MITA MS better. School pride is a non-negotiable and aligned with the fact that MITA  MS is a school of choice.

How does someone join ASB?

  1. The Executive Officers are elected every spring and serve through the following spring. An eighth-grade student may serve as a President, Vice President, Secretary, or Treasurer
  2. ASB Senators for grades 7 and 8 are elected every spring and serve through the following spring. Sixth-grade senators are elected in the fall.
  3. Auxillary members are selected through an application process at the beginning of the 1st and 2nd semesters.  The application is waived for students who ran an election campaign.
  4. All members of the student government support each other in their leadership work and are expected to help each other in the planning, preparation, setup, and cleanup of all activities. Every member of ASB is expected to serve as a role model for the student body and an ambassador for the school.

To be in good standing in ASB, members must maintain a “C” or higher in all their classes. Any member with a grade lower than a “C” on a progress report card will suspend their ASB membership to participate in Response to Intervention (RTI) support to address the academic deficiency. Executive Officers and Senators with a grade lower than a “C” on the Semester 1 Report Card shall resign from their position and may participate as an auxiliary member.
