MIT MS and HS Messenger: Week of 09.07.25

Posted Date: 9/08/25 (7:24 PM)

Hello MIT HS Scholars and Families,

As we head into Week 4 of the school year, we would like to extend our gratitude and appreciation to students and families who are deeply invested in helping us to create a vibrant and thriving learning community.

Top Left: MIT HS student leaders and volunteers passed out class schedules on the first day of school. The same happened at the middle school. Our goal is to provide every opportunity for students to practice leadership skills.

Top Middle: All MITA students in grades 6 through 11 took the NWEA MAP assessments last week. As a charter school, both the state and the required local assessments are used to support our charter renewal. We are looking at 100% participation by the end of this week. Students shall take the assessments seriously. This is demonstrated by no “Rapid Guessing” and the use of scratch paper to support thinking, accuracy, and good test-taking strategies. Please bring your chromebook fully charged daily.

Top Right: All heads together in Mr. Conrad’s AVID 9 class for any final changes to the correct sequences in creating an adulting timeline using primary sources such as high and college transcripts and the first teacher paycheck that make us have thoughts that begin with “WHY?”

Bottom Left: 6th graders showing all of us the habits and routines of SOAR as they wait for the classroom door to open: 1) silent thinking; 2) personal space; and 3) RESPECT.

Bottom Middle: An MIT middle school student received a rousing “Happy Birthday” as he walked through Gate #1. This is what a safe, healthy, and caring community looks and sounds like.

Bottom Right: As a college prep charter school where the students are expected to take college classes to receive their high school diploma, the school day is very much focused on academics. We encourage students to participate in the arts and other enrichment activities after school such as sports, academic competitions, and the After School Program, which is only offered at the middle school.

MIT MIDDLE CELBRATES. Life in the middle is magnificent if we choose to make it so. A shoutout to Mr. Tunca and the ASB Leadership for putting together the first rally and honor roll assembly from semester 2 of last year. The positive energy and vibe were first class. Getting honor roll awards is just as grand as winning sports championships, if not more, since your education will stay and grow with you. Our students clearly demonstrated this mindset on Friday. Our parents also showed up for Club Stride’s first parent meeting with Dr. Renfro, rrenfro@clubstride.org, and Mr. Rymo Cortado, rymo@clubstride.org. Please visit their website for more information: https://www.clubstride.org/.

We look forward to seeing students and families at Back-to-School Night.
