Mare

Our School

In 1999, a group of parents decided that the Vallejo community needed more educational choices that would provide a high-quality education using technology. As a result, the first charter for a 6-8 school called Mare Island Technology Academy was written and then authorized by Vallejo City Unified School District. Three years later, the MIT Academy charter was authorized for grades 9 - 12. The MITA staff is committed to providing each student with a comprehensive education and the support needed to be college and career-ready.

As a public charter school, Mare Island Technology Academy Middle School (MITA MS), is open to all students. It is a school of CHOICE. It is also a workplace of CHOICE. You are choosing to take on the challenge of a college/career preparatory program. Being a school of choice is neither good nor bad, but just different. Here are some of the differences that drive our school culture and policies:

  1. Relationship. The collaborative and caring relationship we have with each other defines our learning community. We show up for each other. We listen and assume positive intentions. We give one to get one.
  2. Rigor and Relevance. Learning is valuable. Students will rise to meet high expectations.
  3. Results. Our students must demonstrate performance and progress that exceeds comparable public schools to have our charter reauthorized. Students can and will learn.
  4. Reputation. Students and families choose us based on what they see and hear. We are not guaranteed a certain number of students. No student is required to attend MITA MS. It is 100% voice and choice. Each of our words and actions matters greatly.

MITA MS BOLD GOALS:

  • 100% of students pass their courses with a grade of “C” or better,
  • 100% of students maintain at least a 96% attendance rate, and
  • 100% parent engagement with Aeries to monitor student progress.

Over 30 MITA MS and GA MS students enjoyed the first week of their Spring Break (3/25/24 – 4/5/24) at Mare Island Technology Academy’s  STEM Camp and/or Conditioning Camp. We also had two incoming MITA MS students! MIT Academy high school students supported the program and fulfilled part of their community service hours. The campers:

  1. Practiced functional living skills with Kids Cooking for Life.
  2. Improved their spatial and technical skills by doing Lego and robotics construction.
  3. Strengthened their kinesthetic intelligence with physical conditioning
  4. Extended their learning with a field trip to the California Academy of Sciences.

If you missed this extended learning opportunity program, summer school is coming up.
